Overview

The Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift coaster continues to dominate Universal’s Florida and California resort plans. In Orlando, the Fast & Furious – Supercharged simulator is scheduled for a permanent shutdown on August 17, 2026.

In Hollywood, Universal Studios Hollywood has confirmed that the new coaster will officially open on September 16, 2026. The attraction is themed around the 25th anniversary of the franchise and features a queue filled with recreated props from the film series. As the park’s first high-speed outdoor roller coaster, the 4,100-foot track reaches speeds of 72 mph and utilizes a dual-launching, split-track system that allows vehicles to rotate 360 degrees to simulate drifting. Riders will experience forces up to 3.6 Gs through elements such as an inverted dive loop and a twisted pretzel loop. Ride vehicles are modeled after iconic franchise cars, including the Dodge Charger, Mazda RX-7, Nissan Skyline GT-R, and Toyota Supra.

The rollout has been marked by significant backlash from Toluca Lake residents regarding noise levels. While initial testing with empty vehicles was quiet, technical rehearsals with riders produced screams that neighbors described as “disturbing,” “intrusive,” and “untenable.” To mitigate these concerns, Universal has implemented sound-reduction technology and additional barriers. Although the park maintains the ride meets existing noise ordinance requirements through previous efforts—such as sound-shield panels and a “low-rumble track” filled with pea gravel—the extra measures aim to address community feedback.

Additionally, Universal Studios Hollywood has updated its Halloween Horror Nights Express offering; the new coaster is no longer included in standard Express tickets and is only accessible via the limited-access R.I.P. Tour. Demolition work at the Lost Continent area of Islands of Adventure has also progressed, including the removal of the Poseidon’s Fury trident and the clearing of the Sindbad building.
