Universidad Autónoma de Chihuahua faces student and labor protests

The Universidad Autónoma de Chihuahua (UACH) is facing simultaneous protests from students and staff regarding administrative mismanagement and poor conditions.

In Ciudad Juárez, students demonstrated to demand the dismissal of the university rector. Protesters cited severe deterioration of campus facilities, including lack of water, broken bathrooms, humidity, leaks, and crumbling ceilings in classrooms. Students questioned the allocation of tuition fees, arguing that resources are not being used to address basic infrastructure needs.

In Chihuahua, over 500 members of the STSUACh union protested at the Rectorate to demand improved labor conditions. Union representatives highlighted unpaid wages for specific job categories (A and B) that have remained unresolved for four years, as well as pending staff recategorizations. The union also called for the filling of vacant positions and raised concerns regarding excessive work shifts for security personnel and improper payroll deductions.
