UAT expands enrollment, adds new programs and scholarships in Tamaulipas
The Universidad Autónoma de Tamaulipas (UAT) awarded 584 merit scholarships and 95 academic‑performance incentives to children of unionised teachers, bringing the total number of students receiving financial support to 679. Rector Dámaso Anaya said the university plans to broaden its enrollment by opening 14 new educational options, including new high‑school campuses in Nuevo Laredo and an upcoming general preparatory in Tampico, as well as new degree programs such as Nursing and Accounting‑Finance. He noted that “in August last year we received 1 400 additional young people… currently we have more than 42 000 students at all levels.”
UAT is also strengthening its digital offering with five online bachelor’s degrees and a virtual high school that already serves about 130 learners, and it intends to launch weekend professional postgraduate courses for working adults. The rapid growth has created pressure on existing facilities, prompting calls for additional classrooms, labs and other infrastructure.
The university hosted the state finals of the 2026 Children’s Rounds and Rope‑Jumping contest, an event attended by the state governor and the DIF system president, underscoring UAT’s role in community and cultural activities.
