Universidad Autónoma de Tamaulipas clarifies faculty director election process

The Rector of the Universidad Autónoma de Tamaulipas, Dámaso Anaya Alvarado, has clarified the electoral process for the director of the Faculty of Law and Social Sciences in Victoria. The university determined that the call for elections and the establishment of requirements fall under the jurisdiction of the faculty’s own Technical Council and its teaching and student community.

In anticipation of the election, the current director, Eddy Izaguirre Treviño, has requested to step down from his position to register as a candidate. This move aims to avoid suspicions of irregularities as he seeks reelection.

Additionally, there have been reports of local government involvement regarding the election criteria. A request was made for the Rector to implement an affirmative action policy to restrict the election exclusively to women, citing the faculty’s 60-year history of male leadership.
