Universidad Autónoma de Tamaulipas unveils hydrometeorological risk atlas to Tamaulipas governor

Rector Dámaso Anaya Alvarado of the Universidad Autónoma de Tamaulipas (UAT) presented significant progress on the Hydrometeorological Risk Atlas during a Mesa de Paz meeting chaired by Governor Américo Villarreal Anaya. The presentation took place at the Centro Estatal de Evaluación y Control de Confianza (C3) and outlined an atlas that will initially cover 33 municipalities in Tamaulipas.

The atlas, described as the most detailed risk study in the state, incorporates high‑precision methodologies from the Institute of Geomatics and Territorial Management, the Center for Research and Development in Port, Maritime and Coastal Engineering (CIDIPORT), and other specialized units. It produces realistic flood models for rain‑induced inundations, river and lagoon overflows, and storm surges. By identifying the most vulnerable zones and estimating potential economic and material damages, the tool is intended to strengthen civil‑protection planning, disaster mitigation, and strategic government decision‑making for the state's most at‑risk communities.
