Universidad Autónoma de Tamaulipas launches eco‑recycling drive, art camp and biopesticide breakthrough

The Universidad Autónoma de Tamaulipas (UAT) in Ciudad Victoria organized a recycling collection called “RecolectaUAT”, gathering paper, cardboard, PET plastic, batteries and other materials from faculties, administrative units and students. The collected items were donated to support social and health causes, linking environmental stewardship with community aid.

In parallel, UAT held the summer artistic camp “Tardes Creativas UAT Verano 2026”, offering children aged 5‑12 workshops in singing, jazz, folk dance, theatre, pantomime, guitar, drawing, painting, storytelling, rhythm and coordination, aiming to foster imagination, teamwork and cultural participation.

Graduate researcher Aracely Martínez Bautista developed a botanical biopesticide named “CempaNeem”, combining extracts of Tagetes erecta (cempasúchil) and Azadirachta indica (neem). Laboratory tests showed 80‑100 % mortality of the whitefly (Bemisia tabidi) and over 50 % inhibition of Fusarium spp., indicating strong insecticidal and fungicidal activity while reducing agrochemical use. The project earned second place in the postgraduate category at ExpoCiencias Tamaulipas 2026. All initiatives reflect rector Dámaso Anaya Alvarado’s vision of integral education, social engagement and sustainable research.
