Universidad Central del Este hosts TUS 2026 technology congress
The Universidad Central del Este (UCE) inaugurated the XIV International Scientific Congress Technology, University and Society (TUS 2026) in Punta Cana. Held on October 21 and 22, the event focuses on the theme “Technology with purpose: Transforming realities from the Caribbean.”
The congress brings together researchers, educators, and academic authorities to examine how technological innovation can transform higher education and address social needs. Key topics include the impact of digital tools on the university experience, artificial intelligence, digital inclusion, and professional training. The agenda also aims to explore the opportunities and ethical governance risks of AI within Latin America.
Opening sessions featured keynote speaker Esteban Clua from the Federal Fluminense University of Brazil, who discussed the decade-long evolution of video games and virtual reality. A panel titled “Redefinition of the university experience” included representatives from UCE, UNICARIBE, and Ecuadorian universities Espíritu Santo (UEES) and ECOTEC. The event is coordinated by UCE alongside several partner institutions, including ARGOS Technological University and the National Institute for Teacher Training (INAFOCAM).
