Universidad de Antioquia video misidentified as recent protest

A video showing hooded individuals at the Universidad de Antioquia (UdeA) has been circulating on social media with misleading claims. Some posts suggested the footage was recorded following President Abelardo de la Espriella’s September 13, 2026, speech, in which he stated that public forces would enter universities in response to violent acts.

However, investigations and the video’s original creator, Esteban Jaramillo, have confirmed the footage was actually recorded on June 3, 2026, prior to De la Espriella’s presidency. The June protests at UdeA occurred during a forum for rectorate candidates and were reportedly related to international policies and economic criticisms rather than current administration issues.

The video was shared by the Centro Democrático account, but Jaramillo clarified that while he uploaded the clip on September 14 to provide context for the presidential statements, the events themselves took place months earlier. The university's general secretary, David Hernández, noted that the June incidents involved the use of explosives by hooded individuals during that specific period.
