Universidad de Atacama launches regional outreach in Chañaral, Chile

The Universidad de Atacama began a territorial deployment in the commune of Chañaral as part of the Fondo de Investigación Universitaria Territorial (FIUT), a program that will cover all nine communes of the Atacama region. The inaugural event brought together twelve researchers, municipal officials, and civil‑society representatives at the Liceo Federico Varela, where they discussed local challenges in public health, environmental care, and water contamination.

Rector Forlin Aguilera Olivares highlighted the university’s commitment to serve its territory, stressing that access to higher education is a real opportunity for young people in the region. He emphasized the role of free‑tuition programmes and the diverse academic offerings that can empower students. The university’s admission office provided practical guidance on university entry pathways and student benefits, aiming to motivate and support local youth in pursuing higher‑education goals.
