Copa Chile match suspended due to fan violence in Viña del Mar
A Copa Chile round-of-16 match between Everton and Universidad de Chile was suspended at the 82nd minute at Estadio Sausalito due to violence. Supporters of Universidad de Chile launched fireworks and flares into the pitch and official stands, causing fires in some seating areas and forcing an evacuation of parts of the stadium.
At the time of the suspension, Universidad de Chile was leading 1-0. Following a meeting between club officials, police, and government authorities, the Chilean Football Federation (FFCh) ruled that the remaining minutes of the first leg will be completed this Sunday, September 27, at 14:45 at the Estadio Nacional. This portion of the match will be played behind closed doors without spectators.
The second leg of the series is scheduled to take place later that same day at 17:30 at the Estadio Nacional. While the second leg will allow spectators, ticket sales for Universidad de Chile fans have been restricted to previously issued tickets due to authority decisions. ANFP President Pablo Milad condemned the incidents and called for stricter legal measures and the use of fan registries to identify and ban those responsible from stadiums.
