UPV inaugurates first Spanish university campus in Hangzhou, China

The Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) has officially inaugurated the Beihang Valencia Polytechnic Institute (BVPI) in Hangzhou, China. This marks the first time a Spanish higher education institution has established a campus in China.

Developed in collaboration with Beihang University, the campus is located in Hangzhou, a major technological hub. The facility is part of a larger international macrocampus that also hosts institutions from France, including the Ecole Nationale de l'Aviation Civile de Toulouse and INSA Lyon. The campus is designed to accommodate up to 10,000 students, with approximately 383 to 400 students enrolled for the current academic cycle.

The project received significant financial backing from the Zhejiang province, with an initial investment of $1.2 billion and a commitment of $800 million over eight years to support infrastructure and research laboratories. The campus focuses on research and teaching in advanced fields, including robotics and aerospace, leveraging its proximity to major tech companies like Unitree and Alibaba.
