Dominican Republic education sector faces protests and evaluation updates

In the Dominican Republic, the Association of Dominican Teachers (ADP) announced a suspension of classes in San Pedro de Macorís for October 9. The protest targets the exclusive use of a new facility by the National Institute of Technical-Professional Training (INFOTEP), with the ADP advocating for a dual education model that includes pre-university programs to address student overcrowding.

Simultaneously, Education Minister Luis Miguel De Camps is scheduled to present a report on October 12 regarding the 2025-2026 Teacher Performance Evaluation (EDD). The report aims to address commitments made to the ADP, including the review of grades for 1,062 teachers and the implementation of a schedule to evaluate approximately 10,000 educators who have not yet completed the process. This follows previous tensions regarding delayed incentive payments.

Regarding infrastructure, maintenance and renovation works are being accelerated in several educational centers in Puerto Plata, specifically in the communities of Cabarete and Sabaneta de Yásica, under the government's Plan Aulas247-365. Additionally, authorities in Dajabón are monitoring progress on a school construction project to resolve technical issues related to terrain and drainage.
