Universities launch community reading and literary programs
Various academic institutions in Argentina and Colombia are launching cultural initiatives to promote reading and interdisciplinary dialogue within their communities.
In Argentina, the “Entre Líneas” reading club, led by psychology student Mara López and instructor Gisel Escobar from the Universidad de Congreso, offers free monthly meetings. The project focuses on the subjective and emotional aspects of literature, providing digital copies of works to ensure no cost to participants. Meetings are held at school libraries in Colegio del Carmen and Colegio Hermanos Maristas.
In Colombia, the Universidad Distrital Francisco José de Caldas has introduced the ‘Ciclo de Escritura, Literatura y Ciencia’. Directed by Marta Velasco of the Institute of Educational Studies and Research (IE-IE), the program hosts monthly sessions in Bogotá to explore the intersections of literature with sociology, psychoanalysis, and history. Upcoming themes include the relationship between literature and other disciplines, women in horror genres, and the historical narratives of slavery through music and poetry.
