University engineering teams from Argentina and Chile compete in Formula SAE

University engineering teams from Argentina and Chile are making strides in the international Formula SAE competition, an engineering challenge organized by SAE International where students design, build, and evaluate racing prototypes.

In Argentina, students from the University of Buenos Aires (UBA) under the name FIUBA Racing made history as the first Argentine public university to compete internationally in the event. Their vehicle, the ‘Suipacha 901’, placed 25th out of 46 participants during its debut in Brazil. The team successfully passed technical inspections, demonstrating advanced aerodynamics, suspension, and data acquisition capabilities.

In Chile, the ESUS team from the University of Santiago (Usach) is focusing on electromobility. As the first generation of Chilean university students to develop a Formula Student project, the team is working toward the FSAE 2027 competition in Brazil. Their goal is to develop an electric single-seater to advance innovation in university-led automotive engineering.
