University of Arizona suspends all IFC fraternity activities
The University of Arizona has placed all chapters of its Interfraternity Council (IFC) on interim suspension following an influx of misconduct reports. Dean of Students Chrissy Lieberman described the severity of the concerns as “egregious,” noting that investigations are currently underway for approximately half of the university’s 21 IFC chapters.
The allegations include hazing, physical assault, drug and alcohol usage, and the creation of unsafe environments. Some cases are reportedly being subject to criminal probes. The volume of reports has reportedly created an unmanageable workload for the Dean of Students Office, which is currently at capacity.
Under the terms of the suspension, all IFC fraternities are prohibited from hosting, attending, participating in, or sponsoring any organizational activities. They are restricted to holding club business meetings only. The suspension will remain in effect until representatives from each chapter participate in mandatory quarterly advisor meetings with university administration.
