Jason Arday resigns from Cambridge amid academic misconduct probe
Jason Arday, formerly the University of Cambridge’s youngest Black professor of sociology of education, has resigned following allegations of academic misconduct and discrepancies in his personal biography. The University of Cambridge has launched an investigation into Arday’s academic qualifications and honorary titles, as well as ongoing complaints regarding research misconduct.
Scrutiny has focused on claims regarding Arday’s background, including his neurodiversity and life experiences. Additionally, allegations of plagiarism concerning his PhD thesis have surfaced. In response to the university's handling of the situation, nearly 100 Cambridge academics have called for an independent investigation into the institution's hiring processes and management of the controversy.
Arday has disputed claims of being a fraud and has cancelled several scheduled public appearances and book tour events. Despite the controversy, his memoir, ‘Great and Unfortunate Things’, is scheduled for publication in late August. The University of Glasgow has also announced a review of his previous appointment at that institution.
