University of Colima hosts international phytopathology congress

The University of Colima hosted the Producer Day event at its Tecomán campus as part of the XXVIII International Congress and LIII National Congress of the Mexican Society of Phytopathology. Held from August 25 to 29, the event focused on the theme “Diagnosis and monitoring: knowledge applied to the field,” aiming to bridge the gap between scientific research and the practical needs of the agricultural sector.

Participants included academics, students, producers, technicians, and representatives from various agricultural institutions. The congress facilitated the exchange of knowledge regarding plant health and current agricultural challenges. Gilberto Manzo Sánchez, president of the local organizing committee, noted that this marks the first time in 20 years the university has hosted this international and national meeting.

The event also commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Faculty of Biological and Agricultural Sciences. International expertise was provided by specialists such as Patricia M. B. Fernandes from the Federal University of Espírito Santo, Brazil, alongside researchers from El Salvador and the Yucatan Scientific Research Center. The congress received support from the Fideicomisos Instituidos en Relación con la Agricultura (FIRA), managed by the Bank of Mexico.
