University of Colima students compete in Latin American concrete engineering meeting

Three civil engineering students from the University of Colima—Andrés Castro de la Cruz, Isabel Alcaraz Mendoza, and Karen Díaz Magaña—participated in the 2026 Latin American Meeting of ACI Student Chapters (ENLACE). The event took place from September 9 to 12 at the Universidad Autónoma de Baja California (UABC) in Tijuana.

As members of the University of Colima's ACI Concrete Student Chapter, the team engaged in academic activities and the FRC Bowling Competition. This competition required students to design and manufacture bowling balls made of fiber-reinforced concrete. The process involved applying technical knowledge regarding mix design, dosage, and the evaluation of cementitious materials.

During the competition, a jury evaluated the physical properties and mechanical behavior of the manufactured pieces before testing them on a conventional bowling lane. The event provided a platform for students to apply classroom theory to practical challenges and exchange experiences with university delegations from various Latin American countries.
