University of Delhi increases security for DUSU elections

The University of Delhi has intensified security and surveillance measures ahead of the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections scheduled for September 17. To ensure safety and fair conduct, authorities plan to deploy over 500 CCTV cameras to monitor the North and South campuses, as well as key transit routes.

Strict campaigning regulations have been implemented in accordance with Lyngdoh Committee guidelines. Printed pamphlets and posters are prohibited; instead, candidates may only use handwritten posters on designated ‘Wall of Democracy’ spaces. Each of the 54 colleges is required to provide two 10x10-foot areas for campaigning. Additionally, campaign teams are restricted to a maximum of five students, and in women’s colleges, only female students are permitted to campaign.

Vehicle restrictions are also in effect. The university has banned luxury cars and vehicles with tinted glass from campus until the election results are announced. Authorities, in coordination with the Delhi Police, are monitoring traffic to prevent road blockages and illegal parking. Violations, such as the use of alcohol or narcotics in candidate vehicles or the use of unauthorized campaigning materials on cars, could lead to the immediate cancellation of nominations.
