University of Exeter and Plymouth Marine Laboratory sign marine research pact

The University of Exeter and Plymouth Marine Laboratory (PML) have signed a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen their collaboration in marine research and education. The agreement, signed on October 6, 2026, aims to address critical issues regarding ocean sustainability, microplastics, ocean carbon, and the impacts of climate change on marine ecosystems.

The partnership seeks to leverage the expertise of both institutions to accelerate scientific discovery and support doctoral students. By formalizing this long-standing relationship, the organizations intend to reinforce the South West region of the United Kingdom as a global hub for marine science, innovation, and environmental solutions.
