University of Florence allocates €1 million to ease student rent costs

The University of Florence has approved a €1 million housing‑cost aid programme for students enrolled in the 2025‑2026 academic year. The measure reimburses rental expenses for off‑campus students whose ISEE does not exceed €40,000, extending support beyond the national Ministry of University and Research scheme that caps eligibility at €20,000.

Eligible applicants must be regular enrollees at the university, not beyond their first year of study, and must be up to date with tuition fees. They must also provide a duly registered lease contract. Students who have already received comparable regional or state housing subsidies are excluded. Rector Alessandra Petrucci highlighted that high rent is a major barrier to university access, affecting both low‑income families and middle‑income households, and said the new contribution demonstrates the university’s commitment to broader financial assistance for students.

The programme aims to alleviate the financial burden of rising accommodation costs, improve university enrolment continuity, and support families facing increased housing expenses.
