University of Georgia student survives eighth-floor fall in Athens

Kristin Sargent, a 21-year-old University of Georgia senior, is recovering in intensive care after surviving an eighth-story fall at The Rambler apartment complex in Athens, Georgia. The incident occurred on a Saturday evening around 7:30 p.m., following a Georgia Bulldogs football victory.

According to the Athens-Clarke County Police Department, Sargent was dancing on a couch or air mattress near an open window when she fell through the screen. Investigators believe her fall was partially broken by a metal pool chair with a cushion, which was found with blood on it at the pool deck where she landed.

Sargent, a finance and marketing student, was reported to be conscious and alert shortly after the accident. Her father, Richard Sargent, stated that she communicated with a friend, saying, “Hey, I’m alive. I can’t believe it.” While she has suffered multiple fractures and serious injuries, her family remains optimistic about her recovery.
