University of Georgia student apartment fall

Overview

Kristin Sargent, a 21-year-old University of Georgia senior, survived a fall from the eighth floor of The Rambler apartment complex in Athens, Georgia. The incident occurred on Saturday, September 26, following a Georgia Bulldogs football victory.

According to police reports, Sargent was dancing on a couch or air mattress near an open window when she fell through a screen. She landed in the complex’s pool area, located in an interior courtyard on the second floor. Investigators noted that her fall may have been partially broken by furniture, including a metal pool chair or bench, which sustained damage during the impact.

Sargent was hospitalized in intensive care with multiple fractures and serious injuries. While her injuries are severe, she is reported to be conscious and recovering. Her father, Richard Sargent, described her as a ‘fighter’ and expressed gratitude for her survival. Following the accident, he reported that she communicated with a friend, stating, ‘Hey, I’m alive. I can’t believe it,’ or ‘Hi, I’m alive. I can’t believe I’m alive.’ Local authorities have interviewed witnesses and indicated that the fall appears to have been accidental.
