University of Ghana Integrates AI and Digital Skills into Core Curriculum

The University of Ghana announced that artificial intelligence and digital skills will become central to its undergraduate education. The initiative was unveiled during the delivery of 2,000 laptops by the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, supporting the government’s One Million Coders Programme.

Vice‑Chancellor Professor Nana Aba Appiah Amfo said AI is strategically important for teaching, research, industry and public service. Starting next semester, four certifications from the One Million Coders Programme – Prompting Essentials, AI Essentials, AI Professional and Digital Literacy – will be compulsory in a Level 100 Digital Literacy and Applied AI course. The move aims to ensure every student gains a solid understanding of AI, learns to use it responsibly, and improves graduate employability.

Some lecturers in the Computer Science department have already incorporated these certifications into their courses. The additional laptops will expand access to digital learning resources and enable large‑scale delivery of AI and digital‑skills training across the university.
