University of Hyderabad students arrested after violent brawl

Two students, Mohit and Akash Bhati, have been arrested and placed in judicial custody following a violent brawl at the University of Hyderabad. The incident occurred at approximately 1:40 am on Friday, October 2, involving members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and the Student Federation of India (SFI).

The conflict is reportedly linked to recent student union elections. An SFI member filed a complaint alleging an attempt to strangle him with a belt, while a female student was also reportedly injured by an iron stand. The accused face charges of attempt to murder under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Conversely, the ABVP filed a counter-complaint alleging house-trespass after members of the SFI allegedly entered their hostel and committed assault.
