University of Hyderabad student union unrest

Overview

The University of Hyderabad experienced significant political shifts and subsequent unrest following recent student union elections. In the election cycle, the AISA-ASA-DSU-SFI-TSF alliance gained leadership in several central-panel contests, including the presidency, which was won by Dilshada Raihan V. P. of the SFI. This marked a change from the previous year when the ABVP-SLVD alliance held all six central-panel posts.

Following the elections, tensions escalated into physical violence. On October 2, a brawl involving members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and the Student Federation of India (SFI) resulted in the arrest and judicial custody of two students, Mohit and Akash Bhati.

Legal disputes have emerged from the incident, with an SFI member alleging an attempt to strangle him with a belt and reporting an injury to a female student. In response, the ABVP filed a counter-complaint alleging house-trespass and assault by SFI members within their hostel.
