University of Nantes building evacuated by police
Police forces evacuated an occupied building at the University of Nantes on Saturday morning. The Censive building, part of the humanities faculty on the Tertre campus, had been occupied since October 7 in solidarity with a regional high school student protest movement.
The evacuation was carried out at the request of the university presidency following concerns over escalating tensions and security risks. According to the Prefecture of Loire-Atlantique, the operation proceeded without clashes, though four individuals were arrested during the intervention.
University President Carine Bernault expressed dismay over the state of the facility, citing significant property damage including graffiti, overturned furniture, and debris. The university had previously closed several locations as a precaution against further occupations and damage. The occupation and subsequent police action are expected to disrupt teaching operations on the Tertre campus through at least Tuesday.
