Student protests and campus blockades in France

Overview

At Nanterre University, student blockades have led to the closure of the campus. The university president announced that administrative activities would move to remote operations for Tuesday, October 13, after nearly all university buildings were blocked, preventing access for staff and students.

Reports indicate that the blockades involved instances of intimidation. The Commission for Training and University Life (CFVU) was unable to meet because its premises were surrounded by approximately one hundred individuals, some of whom were hooded and equipped with carts and pallets. Security personnel also faced difficulties preventing the occupation of an amphitheater. While the president condemned these actions for undermining democratic functioning, student assemblies have voted to continue the blockade through the end of the week.
