University of Nebraska System President reports strong momentum

University of Nebraska System President Jeffrey Gold delivered his second annual State of the University Address at the Nebraska State Capitol, reporting that the system remains strong despite the need for continued investment.

Gold highlighted several key achievements from the past year, including joint accreditation between the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and the University of Nebraska Medical Center. He also noted a new governance structure for Nebraska Medicine that includes the Omaha Community Foundation as a shared governing partner.

Financial and research milestones mentioned include exceeding $500 million in charitable giving to the University of Nebraska Foundation during the 2026 fiscal year and the establishment of the Atomically Engineered Materials Center at UNL through an $18 million National Science Foundation grant. Additionally, Gold noted Nebraska Medicine’s milestone of 10,000 solid organ transplants.
