Peter Obi's academic records face legal scrutiny via new lawsuits

Abayomi Arabambi has filed three separate lawsuits at the Federal High Court in Abuja seeking access to the academic and service records of Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi. The suits, filed under the Freedom of Information Act, target the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). Arabambi is seeking official records to establish the status and particulars of certificates reportedly issued to Obi, rather than challenging their authenticity directly.

The Labour Party (LP) has officially disowned Arabambi, stating he is no longer a member following a suspension for anti-party activities that was ratified by the party's National Convention in April 2026. The LP warned that any attempt by Arabambi to represent the party constitutes unauthorized impersonation.

In response to broader political criticism, the Obi media office has defended the candidate's readiness for the 2027 election by citing his record as former governor of Anambra State. Simultaneously, the NDC is facing internal challenges in Ekiti State, where members protested the exclusion of two senatorial candidates from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) final list.
