University of Pavia to host new Arpa Lombardia meteorological radar
The University of Pavia's Faculty of Engineering will host a new meteorological radar for Arpa Lombardia. Funded by the Ministry of Environment and Energy Security (MASE) through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), the project involves an investment of 1,171,200 euros.
The radar will be installed on the roof of Building 34 at the via Ferrata Campus. This location was selected for its strategic visibility and available infrastructure for power and data transmission. The system is designed to enhance the observation of precipitation and improve the monitoring of extreme weather events, aiding in natural risk prevention.
This new installation will integrate into Arpa Lombardia's existing hydrometeorological network, which includes 318 meteorological stations, 70 hydrometric stations, and 46 snow stations. By providing high-resolution spatial and temporal coverage, the radar will specifically improve monitoring in southwestern Lombardy, including the Milan and Brianza areas, and support the national Civil Protection system.
