Italian meteorological radar infrastructure upgrades

Overview

In the Veneto region, Arpav has completed a technological upgrade of its radar systems located in Teolo (Padua) and Concordia Sagittaria (Venice). As part of a national program to update Civil Protection tools, the new equipment features Doppler and dual-polarization technology, increasing visibility range from 125 km to 200 km and allowing for better identification of frozen precipitation.

Expanding on these meteorological monitoring efforts, a new radar system is being established for Arpa Lombardia at the University of Pavia’s Faculty of Engineering. Funded by the Ministry of Environment and Energy Security through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, this installation aims to enhance the observation of extreme weather events and improve monitoring in southwestern Lombardy, specifically covering the Milan and Brianza areas.
