The University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) has uncovered a major academic fraud scheme involving the manipulation of over 500 student results. Vice Chancellor Prof Kwaku Mensah Mawutor revealed during the university’s 18th Congregation that 178 students were implicated in the breach.

Investigations indicate that both students and external individuals hijacked the university’s systems to alter academic records. Some students admitted to paying individuals to change their grades, while others confessed to collecting money from classmates to facilitate the alterations.

As a result of the investigation, the university has indefinitely withheld the graduation of several implicated students to allow for ongoing disciplinary processes. Prof Mawutor described the incident as a serious breach of academic integrity that strikes at the heart of the institution.
