Academic fraud at University of Professional Studies, Accra

Overview

The University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) uncovered a significant academic fraud scheme involving the manipulation of more than 500 student results. Vice Chancellor Prof Kwaku Mensah Mawutor reported that 178 students were implicated in the breach, which involved both students and external actors hijacking university systems to alter academic records.

Investigations revealed that some students paid individuals to change grades, while others collected money from classmates to facilitate the alterations. Consequently, the university has indefinitely withheld the graduation of several implicated students pending ongoing disciplinary processes. Prof Mawutor characterized the incident as a “serious breach of academic integrity.”
