University students Nehir Dizdar and Nevin Tekin released from detention

University students Nehir Dizdar and Nevin Tekin, members of the Workers' Party of Turkey (TİP), have been released from detention. The two were arrested on Sunday after hanging protest banners ahead of a visit by National Education Minister Yusuf Tekin to Kadıköy High School.

Upon their release, they were met by TİP leadership and legal representatives in Istanbul. Dizdar stated that their protest was motivated by a desire to protect children, specifically citing concerns regarding school safety and the risks associated with the Vocational Training Centers (MESEM) program. Tekin emphasized that university students have a responsibility to advocate for the rights and safety of younger students.

During a gathering in Beşiktaş, TİP officials and family members criticized the arrests. TİP Istanbul Provincial Chair Furkan Seyhan argued that the administration is attempting to suppress dissent, noting that while dozens of youths have died under the MESEM program, the government has focused on penalizing students for political expression.
