Higher education institutions in Colombia and Argentina announce new funding and strategies

In Colombia, several educational developments are underway. The Nariño Departmental Assembly unanimously approved an ordinance to allocate 1,000 million pesos to support the Universidad de los Pueblos Pastos y Quillasingas (UNIPUEBLOS). This permanent funding, adjusted annually by inflation, aims to strengthen higher education for indigenous communities in municipalities such as Ipiales, Pasto, and Túquerres.

Additionally, the Universidad de Nariño is expanding its regional presence through its Ipiales branch. The institution is focusing on academic and administrative strengthening to ensure quality education and student retention in border regions, allowing local youth to study without leaving their territories.

Meanwhile, Unicaribe has launched the ‘Level Up: Es tiempo de seguir’ workshop series. Supported by the Ministry of National Education, this initiative provides emotional self-management tools to help first-semester students prevent university dropout.

In Argentina, the National Interuniversity Council (CIN) approved a 2027 university budget proposal totaling 11 trillion pesos. The proposal will be presented to the national legislature to ensure the continued operation and predictability of the public university system.
