Unregulated sexual performance supplements pose health risks

Health authorities are warning against unregulated sexual performance supplements sold in convenience stores, sex shops, and online. These products, often marketed as natural, frequently contain undeclared pharmaceutical ingredients that pose significant health risks.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has identified several products containing undisclosed active ingredients such as sildenafil and tadalafil, which are used to treat erectile dysfunction. Recent warnings issued by the FDA in 2026 include brands like HARD AF! and MAGNUM, the latter of which included a honey-based product containing both drugs.

In Mexico, Cofepris has issued similar alerts regarding supplements promoted for sexual potency that contain undeclared compounds. Other substances detected in these unregulated products include paroxetine and vardenafil. The presence of these undisclosed drugs increases the risk of dangerous interactions with other medications.
