Unsko-sanski kanton government falls amid political deadlock

A political crisis has emerged in the Una-Sana Canton (USK) after the Assembly voted with 16 votes to express no confidence in the government led by Mustafa Ružnić. However, the process of forming a new government has been halted following the activation of the vital national interest protection mechanism.

Mustafa Ružnić challenged the legality of the decision, arguing that the voting procedure did not follow the Assembly's Rules of Procedure. He contended that votes of no confidence should be conducted by ethnic parliamentary clubs and stated, “I will not hand over the government without a court decision.”

The deadlock intensified when Mladen Lonić, the Deputy Speaker and head of the Serb Club, activated the vital national interest mechanism. Lonić contested the appointment of new working bodies and the Assembly Speaker, claiming the Commission for Elections and Appointments lacked Serbian representation. The final resolution regarding these disputed issues is expected to be determined by the Constitutional Court of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
