Una-Sana Canton political crisis

Overview

A political crisis emerged in the Una-Sana Canton (USK) after the Assembly voted 16 to 0 to express no confidence in the government led by Mustafa Ružnić. The transition to a new administration has been stalled by legal and procedural disputes.

Following the vote, Mladen Lonić, head of the Serb Club, activated the vital national interest mechanism, contesting the appointment of the Assembly Speaker and new working bodies due to a lack of Serbian representation. Ružnić has challenged the legality of the dismissal, arguing that the voting procedure violated the Assembly’s Rules of Procedure and that votes of no confidence should be conducted by ethnic parliamentary clubs.

As the dispute continues, Ružnić maintains that his administration holds a technical mandate and has stated, “I will not hand over the government without a court decision.” He contends that the proposed new government, led by Ibrahim Dizdarić, is illegal. The matter is expected to be resolved by the Constitutional Court of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
