Unterfranken Government Issues Fire‑Risk Alert Amid Heatwave
The regional government of Unterfranken announced a heightened forest‑fire danger for the period July 30 – August 3, 2026, due to prolonged drought and an upcoming heatwave. As a precautionary measure, aerial surveillance flights will monitor the entire Regierungsbezirk, with western routes launching from Mainbullau and Hettstadt airfields and eastern routes from Schweinfurt‑Süd and Haßfurt. The flights will also check for signs of bark‑beetle infestation.
Authorities warned that dry vegetation and increased visitor traffic raise the likelihood of accidental ignitions. The public is urged to avoid open flames, smoking, or any activity that could start a fire while traveling in forested areas.
