UOKiK fines four Polish banks 147 million PLN for unfair clauses

The President of the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection (UOKiK) has imposed fines totaling approximately 147.09 million PLN on four banks for using prohibited clauses in their agreements.

The banks penalized include Erste Bank Polska (80.68 million PLN), ING Bank Śląski (63.25 million PLN), Bank Pocztowy (2.71 million PLN), and Plus Bank (453,000 PLN). The violations involved clauses that allowed banks to unilaterally change contract terms or increase fees and commissions without clearly defining the scope or reasons for such changes.

These prohibited provisions affected various products, including bank accounts, credit and debit cards, loans, and mortgages. The decisions are not yet legally binding, and the banks have the right to appeal to the Court of Competition and Consumer Protection.
