Polish consumer regulator enforcement actions
Overview
The Polish Office of Competition and Consumer Protection (UOKiK) has issued significant fines against companies for unfair business practices. In September 2026, the telecommunications operator Inea was fined nearly 2 million PLN for applying excessive termination fees and automatically activating paid antivirus services without consent.
In October 2026, UOKiK imposed a fine exceeding 21 million PLN on Nasz Prąd S. A. for using 21 prohibited contract clauses, including terms allowing unilateral changes to equipment and pricing. The regulator also notified the prosecutor's office regarding sales representative conduct.
During the same month, the financial sector faced heavy sanctions. UOKiK fined four institutions—Erste Bank Polska, ING Bank Śląski, Bank Pocztowy, and Plus Bank—a combined 147.09 million PLN. These penalties addressed abusive clauses that permitted banks to unilaterally modify contracts, increase fees by as much as 200%, or introduce new commissions based on vague criteria. While these decisions are not yet legally binding, the banks retain the right to appeal.
Additionally, UOKiK brought charges against Canal+ Polska for allegedly misleading customers regarding the expiration of Champions League access in its ‘Mistrzowska Piłka’ package. On October 19, 2026, the lending company Aasa Polska was fined nearly 4 million PLN. The regulator found the company used mandatory, expensive add-on services—such as medical subscriptions or legal support—to artificially inflate loan costs and bypass anti-usury laws.
