UOKiK investigates Danone, Mondelez, Nestlé, and Unilever over packaging
The Polish Office of Competition and Consumer Protection (UOKiK) has launched explanatory proceedings against four major food corporations: Danone, Mondelez, Nestlé, and Unilever.
The investigation focuses on whether these companies are adequately informing consumers about reductions in product weight or volume, a practice often referred to as shrinkflation. The regulator is examining cases where product quantities have decreased while packaging remains nearly identical in size, appearance, and graphic design, and prices have not necessarily dropped.
While manufacturers are legally required to list the correct mass or volume on labels, UOKiK is investigating if the overall presentation of the packaging could mislead customers. If the regulator determines that the visual presentation is deceptive, it may proceed with formal charges against the companies.
