Upper Midwest weather shifts with cooler temperatures and rain

A cold front moving across the Upper Midwest is expected to bring cooler, fall-like temperatures and increased precipitation to parts of the United States.

In the short term, Friday evening carries a risk of severe thunderstorms in parts of Nebraska and Minnesota, with potential for large hail and damaging winds. Following the passage of the front, temperatures are projected to drop significantly. Highs in Minnesota and northern Iowa may reach only the 60s, while parts of Wisconsin and Nebraska will also experience much cooler conditions.

Rain chances are expected to increase heading into Monday, with widespread light to moderate rainfall possible. This moisture may provide relief to drought-stricken areas, though some locations in Wisconsin could see over an inch of rain. The cooler, wetter pattern is expected to persist through the early part of the week.
