UPTA reports high structural costs for self-employed workers

The Union of Professionals and Self-Employed Workers (UPTA) has released an analysis regarding the structural costs faced by self-employed individuals operating without employees. The study highlights that maintaining a small business with a rented commercial space requires significant monthly expenditures before any profit is realized.

In one scenario involving a monthly rent of 1,500 euros and an operation of 5.5 days per week, annual structural costs reach approximately 35,760 euros. This equates to roughly 3,000 euros per month or 125 euros for every day the business is open. Rent alone accounts for over 50% of this total. When combined with electricity and Social Security contributions (RETA), these three items represent nearly 69% of the total structural burden.

In the specific context of Castilla y León, the analysis suggests lower baseline figures, with annual costs estimated at 29,760 euros based on a monthly rent of 1,000 euros. This results in a daily cost of 104 euros. Other contributing expenses identified include management services, insurance, communications, bank commissions, digital tools, maintenance, cleaning, security, and various taxes.
