Urbagestión reaches new lease agreement for elderly tenant in Spain

Urbagestión has responded to criticisms from Spain's Housing Minister, Isabel Rodríguez, regarding the eviction of 87-year-old María del Carmen Abascal. The company claims it offered Abascal a new written lease in January 2024, following the termination of her previous contract.

Following mediation with the Madrid Municipal Housing and Land Company (EMVS), an agreement was reached for an eight-year lease, extendable by an additional three years. The terms specify that rent will not exceed 30% of the tenant's net income. The company stated the contract was signed on October 2 and delivered to the EMVS.

Meanwhile, in Florence, Italy, a similar housing crisis is unfolding. A 94-year-old woman named Franca faces potential eviction as her monthly rent is set to increase from 450 to 1,200 euros. Her family notes that the new cost would consume nearly her entire pension, leaving insufficient funds for basic living expenses.
