Urban planning updates proposed in Podgorica and Opatija

In Podgorica, Montenegro, the Agency for the Development of Local Planning Documents has announced a shift in urban development strategy. Prosecutor Andrija Babović stated that infrastructure, including schools, kindergartens, parks, and roads, must be planned before new residential blocks are constructed. This move aims to address issues in overcrowded areas such as Zabjelo, Ljubović, and the Zabjelo 8 zone, where intensive construction has led to a lack of parking and green spaces. The agency is considering halting construction in certain overburdened areas to ensure essential services and infrastructure can support the population density.

In Opatija, Croatia, the city has prepared the fourth amendments to its Spatial Development Plan. The proposed changes include a new traffic solution for Slatina Square involving a roundabout, the possibility of constructing five-story affordable housing buildings, and changes to construction areas in Veprinac. The plan also suggests abandoning previous plans for a city animal shelter and a composting plant. The document is currently undergoing public consultation.
