Urbano Cairo discusses Enrico Mentana's contract renewal at La7

Urbano Cairo, the publisher of the Italian television network La7, has addressed the upcoming contract expiration of TgLa7 director Enrico Mentana. Mentana's current contract is set to expire at the end of December.

Speaking at the 25th Cairo Prize, Cairo stated that while his respect for Mentana remains intact, any renewal would require willingness from both parties. Cairo defended the network's editorial identity, noting that while he grants freedom to his journalists and hosts, he believes a media outlet must maintain its specific 'DNA' to avoid losing its audience.

Regarding Mentana's requests for greater network neutrality, Cairo emphasized that La7 has not changed its editorial stance since Mentana joined 16 years ago. He noted that while the network may introduce hosts with different viewpoints, he will not alter the fundamental editorial line of the station.
