Balkan infrastructure: Bridge reopenings and roadwork updates
Major infrastructure updates are underway across the Balkans. In Montenegro, the Đurđevića Tara Bridge is reopening to traffic following the completion of asphalt works ahead of schedule. While the bridge is functional, temporary traffic restrictions remain, including alternating single-lane traffic and daily daytime closures for remaining work on approach roads. Additionally, vehicles over 3.5 tons remain prohibited until further notice.
In Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Gradiška border crossing is expected to reopen for passenger vehicles and buses by the end of October following repairs to the bridge fence and pedestrian path. Authorities are currently assessing the structural integrity of the bridge's overpass. Meanwhile, significant roadwork continues on the A-1 highway, affecting several sections including the Hercegovina bridge and tunnel.
In Serbia, construction of the Slepčević-Badovinci fast road is approximately 90% complete, with a target finish date of December 19. Additionally, a permit has been issued for the construction of access roads for the Belgrade metro depot at Makiš, with an estimated value of 220 million dinars.
In Croatia, police conducted intensive traffic monitoring on the A-1 highway, identifying 140 violations, including speeding and driving under the influence. In Zagreb, city officials addressed resident concerns regarding the reservation of parking spaces for municipal service vehicles near the renovated city administration building.
