Montenegro road and highway infrastructure developments

Montenegro is managing various infrastructure and transportation developments involving road construction and highway expansion.

In the immediate term, the Auto-moto saveza Crne Gore (AMSCG) has reported significant road closures and traffic restrictions. These include a total suspension of road and pedestrian traffic on the M-6 highway for the reconstruction of the Đurđevića Tara bridge until late October, as well as daily suspensions on several regional roads such as the R-29, R-17, and R-30. Additionally, freight vehicles over 7.5 tons face specific route restrictions through mid-September.

On a larger scale, the Bar-Boljare highway project is experiencing delays in its conceptual phases. Data from the Action for Social Justice (ASP) shows that state-owned Monteput has paid approximately 1.85 million euros for projects that have missed original deadlines, necessitating contract extensions. While work continues on the Mateševo to Andrijevica section under a 693.97 million euro contract with the PowerChina-Stecol-PCCD consortium, Monteput has implemented new rules requiring domestic subcontractors to have been registered in Montenegro before January 1, 2023.
